LOCTITE SI 5970 – vibration-resistant silicone sealant The silicone sealant from LOCTITE is optimal for use in areas with strong vibrations or bending load. In addition, it is highly oil-resistant, for example against motor oils. This silicone is often used for flexible sealing of flanges, and can replace paper or cork. The high temperature silicone sealant is also often used on punched sheet metal components such as casing covers or oil troughs. In addition to cast flanging, it can be used for plastic, varnished components and metals. The sealant is black for good combination with many materials. As soon as the silicone comes in contact with humidity, the curing process begins, and it is dry to the touch within 25 minutes. The surfaces should be clean and oil-free. As soon as the silicone is exposed to atmospheric humidity, the curing process begins. This means that the components should be put together within minutes of applying the silicone. Before being put under strain, the sealant should be left to cure fully (e.g. 7 days). Excess sealant can be removed using an nonpolar solvent. For automatic application, a volumetric dosing system is recommended.
