About this item
- Alternanthera cardinalis, the cardinal plant or ruby leaf, has bright red to burgundy lance-shaped leaves on bushy stems, making a striking mid-ground or background accent in freshwater aquariums.
- LIGHTING: Alternanthera cardinalis prefers moderate to high lighting conditions. KEEP IT AT 20°C to 28°C — outside that range growth slows and the plant becomes more vulnerable, so it is worth checking against the rest of your stocking.
- WATER pH 6.0 to 7.5 — it is tolerant within that band, so in most tap-water aquariums no adjustment or buffering is needed. Rinse and acclimatise before planting so it settles in faster.
- CO2: Alternanthera cardinalis benefits from added CO2, especially in high-tech planted aquarium setups, where extra CO2 can enhance its growth and colour.
- Regular maintenance, including pruning to control growth and water quality management, will help ensure its health and appearance. Check it against the lighting and stocking you already run.

The package was here in Australia from England in a few days — so quick! Something was missing and they refunded it straight away. Pretty happy with these guys.
