Product description
Johnsons Tomato ‘Shirley F1’ is a dependable greenhouse favourite bred for early cropping, long trusses of medium‑sized tomatoes and strong disease resistance suited to UK conditions. Perfect for growbags in polytunnels or heated/unheated greenhouses, Shirley F1 produces uniform fruits with good flavour and excellent shelf life. This pack contains 10 premium F1 seeds for reliable, vigorous performance and heavy yields from early summer through autumn. Growing Instructions (UK) Sowing Sow under cover January–March, 0.5 cm deep in quality seed compost at 18–22°C. Keep compost lightly moist. Pricking out and potting on Prick out at first true leaves into 7–9 cm pots; grow on in a cooler spot (12–16°C) until sturdy. Hardening off and planting out Harden off after last frost; plant into greenhouse, polytunnel or sheltered outdoor site from late April–June when night temperatures stay above 8°C. Space plants 45–60 cm apart or 2–3 per growbag. Support and training Indeterminate habit: provide canes, stakes or string supports and train as a cordon; remove excess laterals to focus vigour. Watering and feeding Water evenly at soil level, avoid wetting foliage; mulch containers to retain moisture. Feed weekly after first truss with balanced tomato fertiliser, increasing potash during fruiting. Pests, disease and tips Monitor for aphids and blight; ensure good ventilation and avoid overcrowding. Harvest ripe fruit regularly to encourage further cropping. Harvest Harvest June–October (greenhouse) or July–September (sheltered outdoor) when fruits are fully coloured and slightly soft to the touch.
