MFP- Mud Fever Prevention For cases of mud fever, we recommend bringing the horse in, washing the legs down with IV Horse Multiwash, without the use of brushes. Letting the legs dry overnight, preferably on a good bed of shavings, which helps the drying process, a generous amount of copiously applied MFP should be dosed on all the affected areas before the horse is turned out. Further application can be made once or twice a week depending on the state of the weather and the legs etc. The design of the product in formulation is a very simple concept. It works because it is a very viscous product and ensures even and total coverage over affected areas, helping to exclude oxygen from the bacteria causing the problem whilst at the same time helping to balance the moisture content of the skin and offering protection whilst it recovers. It also helps keep scabs softened to avoid cracking and further ingress of bacteria, protecting the underlying skin until they have done their job and drop off. We recommend to all owners dealing with a mud fever problem, that brushes and equipment are soaked in a solution of Multiwash to kill the bacteria. It works most efficiently at around 20 degrees Celsius. Finally, the muddy gateways should be scooped out and hard cored, with the removed mud dumped away from the horses. MFP is available in pouring form in addition to this spray.
