The RF-4E is the tactical reconnaissance version of McDonnell's world-famous two-seater multi-role fighter Douglas Phantom II. It was developed specifically for export and was the combination of the reconnaissance systems of the RF-4C with the aerodynamic structure and enhanced engines of the F-4E. The Luftwaffe received the first specimens in the early 1970s and became a major user alongside Japan, Iran, Israel and Greece. Many components and reconnaissance systems were also produced in Germany. The RF-4E was able to carry out reconnaissance missions "all time" and was able to map the terrain, thanks to infrared sensors, target search systems and shooting equipment, very effectively and accurately.
