Cliff Ukulele Ike Edwards was a pioneer jazz singer and crooner who is nowadays most remembered as the voice of Jiminy Cricket in Walt Disney's Pinocchio.However,he was also a prolific recording star from the 20s to the 40s,selling in excess of three quarters of a million 78s.His role as the first master of the ukulele helped popularise the instrument,and make it the perennial favourite that it is today.His vaudeville background made him an ideal performer for the early talkies and he appeared in over 100 films.The 27 tracks on this CD celebrate his innovative talent,his scat singing underlining his jazz credentials alongside the distinctive interpretations of his movie songs.Dating from his early years in the 20s through to his peak in the 40s they are a chronicle of a star from an age of charm and style.Cliff Edwards was inducted into the Ukulele Hall Of Fame Museum in 2000 and to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002.
