Product description
Hosta Dorset Blue Round blue-green leaves are heart-shaped and cup slightly. One of the best of the Eric Smith Tardiana hybrids with lovely white flowers and excellent slug resistance. All Blue leafed Hostas have green leaves it is "bloom" waxy cuticle layer on upper surface of leaf that makes it appear blue. Requires to be planted in good shade with overhanging tree or shrub branches to keep the worst of the sun and rain of the leaves. Wax will melt off if exposed to sun or heavy rain. The photograph shows a mature Hosta 8 years old with maturity the waxy layer builds up more on the leaves giving it the blue appearance. Small mound size at maturity. Plant is sent out in pot. Flowers are cut off before sending as they do not travel well in transit. Leaves will be cut of from August onwards. Hosta leaves die back from as early as August and re-emerge when temperature is warm enough in the Spring usually March onwards. Photograph is for reference not size of plant for sale.
