Verbena Profusion Violet A prolific bloomer, it produces profusion of violet (light lilac-blue) flowers over a long period. Light, airy, elegant and always in vogue - that's this classic border perennial! If you are one that loves, butterflies and hummingbirds then add verbena to your garden. The verbena is an easy to grow flowing groundcover that features a constant colour show from early summer o frost. Plant verbena flowers in a sunny garden, in a window box, or hanging container. For a home with a large yard, consider planting verbena in masses. For a cottage garden, mix verbena with other flowers. Germination: Verbena has a very hard seed coat that must be softened for germination to occur. Prior to sowing: Store verbena seed in a refrigerator (40°F; 4°C) for 5 days prior to sowing. If it has been stored longer, that’s fine. Fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface, and lightly cover them with a little more compost. Place in warmth 10-15C (50-60F), and keep moist. Sow January to April or Autumn Verbena seeds can receive their chilling period naturally when planted in Autumn. Sow the seeds before the first frost, in the appropriate soil, and allow winter temperatures to prompt the seeds into germination.
