Considered the best choice in most cases for mushroom growers, Rye is a member of the wheat family, also closely related to barley, and perfect for producing mushroom spawn. Fungi Forge rye packs are hydrated to optimum levels and are of course fully sterilised. Rye is packed in individual 1kg heat-sealed mushroom bags with injection ports added post-sterilisation, ready for immediate inoculation. Although Fungi Forge sterilised rye packs can have a shelf life of 2-3 weeks if stored properly (kept cool, shaded, out of sunlight), they are always best used when fresh. Colonisation times will vary according to the type, quality and quantity of liquid culture you use (not included) for inoculation. To reduce the risks of contamination from excess liquid it is advisable not to use more than 5ml of culture per kg rye, and to maintain both correct sterile working practices and incubation conditions (these may vary according tot he mushroom species you wish to grow).
