Ferrari & Arrighetti Infant Jesus of Prague Statue, Hand-Painted Plaster (30 cm)

The statue, made of finely hand-painted plaster, depicts Our Saviour in one of his most particular representations: the Infant Jesus of Prague. The original image inspiring this reproduction was firstly owned by the ambassadors of the Spanish monarchy in Prague, and was then given as a present to the Discalced Carmelites of the city. The depiction, already very popular in Spain, took little to spread first among the novices and then to other areas of the world. Miraculous powers were attributed to this depiction, which is a symbol of Jesus' childhood. The Child is portrayed while wearing very sumptuous red and white ecclesiastical garments, richly decorated in gold-colour. He is in a blessing position, with a large crown on his head and the globus cruciger, symbol of Christian authority, in his hand. This 30 cm tall Child Jesus of Prague statue is fully crafted in Italy and stands out for the quality of its workmanship and the wise use of colours. The chromatic tones give three-dimensionality to the figure and make it pretty suggestive.
