Supplied in 10 litre bags, Fernwood Soft Tree Fern Substrate is an eco-friendly, non-toxic substrate made from New Zealand Tree Fern. This product, also known as Xaxim, is excellent for use in terrariums and vivariums. It holds moisture very well, which helps regulate humidity, without getting waterlogged. The natural capillary action of the substrate makes it easy to keep an even and consistent moisture level. Made from New Zealand Xaxim tree fern a 100% natural and sustainably grown giant fern. NZ tree fern is far superior and different to that from Central America. It is soft, not hard, and superior for plant growth. It is non-toxic, has natural antibacterial properties that prevent disease, keeping plants and pets healthy. The substrate is made by Fernwood (New Zealand), manufacturer of quality Tree Fern products for the reptile and orchid industries. The fern is from Native Tree Ferns only found in New Zealand. Fernwood are committed to sustainable harvesting and follow the strict standards and regulations as set by the New Zealand Government. Most of New Zealand's Native Forests are found in National Parks which means Tree Ferns in these areas can not be harvested and are protected for future generations. Our raw materials are sourced from renewable resource on privately owned forest land and before any harvesting can commence, we have to satisfy a number of Local Government Regulations.
