EMG pickups "40TWX - 5-string bass pickup - black" pickup for 5-string. Inside the EMG 40TWX are two independent pickups: a single coil and a humbucker, with the X Series preamp for improved dynamic response and clarity. Single-coil mode is the EMG JCSX pickup, which provides a rich, warm tone with ceramic and steel magnets. Humbucker mode is EMG's popular CSX (ceramic steel) dual coil for a large, aggressive sound with distinct mids. The X series preamp gives the pickup a wider dynamic range and more headroom, while maintaining traditional string-to-string balance. The X Series pickups are also equipped with active sound control (VLPF) that lowers (dampens) the high frequencies, similar to typical passive sound control. The result is a silent single coil guitar pickup with the classic EMG sound that bridges the gap between active and passive.
