These Eco Maximus elephant dung photo albums are full of colour and fun. They are made from 75% elephant dung and 25% recycled paper and make a great, quirky but practical gift. These photo albums are fairly traded and handmade by skilled artisans in Sri Lanka by the Maximus Elephant Conservation Trust. Each album is filled with 10 sheets of differently coloured elephant dung paper. Photos can be put in with photo corners, with spray mount or simple glue. Elephant dung paper is made just the same way as most handmade papers, with just one main difference.....The fibres are pulped by the elephant, instead of by hand or machine, whilst digesting, then the readymade pulp comes out the back! The Elephant dung is collected and then vigorously boiled with margosa leaves, which are a natural disinfectant, then made into paper after mixing with 25% recycled paper. The coarseness and shade of the elephant dung paper is entirely dependent on the elephant’s diet making each sheet unique. We source our paper from the Maximus Elephant Conservation Trust in Sri Lanka; they have their workshop on the grounds of the Millennium Elephant Foundation which is a charity that cares for sick and disabled elephants. We are promoting this elephant dung paper as the more people that buy these products, the more we order, the more money the elephants get. Maximus are helping to educate rural villages that are plagued by elephants eating crops, after their natural habitats have been taken over by humans, to see elephants as a form of income and not just as a pest. The villagers get paid for collecting the elephant dung therefore giving them a reason to live with, rather than against, the elephants. By buying this product you can give yourself a pat on the back as you are helping to preserve the lives of these majestic creatures.
