Dwarf Iris ‘Eyecatcher’ is an exceptionally glamourous variety which really gives the much-loved classic, ‘Katherine Hodgkin’, a run for its money in terms of beauty. White petals are splashed with bold blue streaks, a golden-yellow flare and dotted with dark blue flecks. Bearing such exquisite detail, each bloom is almost like a hand-painted masterpiece! Bravely emerging during the earliest months of spring, Iris ‘Eyecatcher’ is a real feast for the eyes and a welcome sign that spring is on its way. Easy to grow and low maintenance, simply plant these little beauties in big drifts at the front of borders, or groups in patio pots or rockeries and wait for the show to begin! Iris reticulata bulbs should be planted outdoors in October and November in a sunny position in moist, free draining soil. The bulbs should be planted with the pointed end facing upwards at a depth of 10-15cm, and position them around 10-15cm apart from each other. Dwarf irises are most eye-catching when planted in large groups or drifts running through borders or rockeries, but they also make fantastic compact plants for growing in patio containers where they can be admired close up. If planting in containers, use a loam based compost such as John Innes No. 2.
