Description The 1972/73 season experienced how the exciting team of Mönchengladbach under Hennes Weisweiler shone in cup competitions. A Bundesliga season that ended with a fifth place, but more memorable was the famous success in the extension in the final of the DFB Cup against Cologne, whereby the substituted Günter Netzer scored the victory goal in his very last game for the club. Mönchengladbach was equally dominant in Europe and achieved his first European football cup in style. Final with 9 Wins and 36 goals in 12 games. However, a 0:3 defeat in the first leg at Liverpool proved to be too much behind to catch him up in the second game despite an impressive performance and a double pack of the always accurate Jupp Heynckes.
