Product description
Enjoy a vibrant display of red blooms every summer with this hardy, reliable and highly prolific climbing rose ‘Paul’s Scarlet’. Fast growing, but maintaining a neat and manageable habit, this spectacular classic variety is ideal for growing on trellis to cover a wall or fence, or for growing on a garden arch or pergola. A profusion of clusters of bright red, lightly scented flowers are produced in summer. Plant bare-root roses at the earliest opportunity following delivery. To avoid the risk from the build-up of harmful soil organisms and disease, choose an open position in full sun that has not been planted with roses in recent years. Roses enjoy a rich, fertile, well drained soil. Dig in plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting roses and add a small handful of granular fertiliser to the planting hole. Stems of climbing roses will require training against a suitable support such as a pergola, fence or wall. Feed and water rose plants regularly and deadhead faded flowers. When growing roses it is necessary to remove any suckers that arise from the base of the plant, below the graft union. In late summer begin pruning climbing roses by removing dead and diseased wood, and any rubbing or damaged stems. For the first two years the remaining stems should be trained horizontally on wires. Position: Full Sun/Partial Shade Height: Up to 3m when fully established Spread: Up to 2m when fully established Supplied as 2 x Climbing Rose ‘Paul’s Scarlet’ bare root plants.
