Christmas Here With You

Amazon.co.uk Levi Stubbs was always "the voice" in the Four Tops, but when this record was made in 1995, Stubbs's signature pipes got buried in the mix. That said, Christmas Here Without You is an unusually bombastic affair. Overproduced and somewhat uninspired through almost 12 cuts, the disc is rich with clichés but poor in imagination. Even three cameos from Aretha Franklin, who rises to the occasion only to oversing her parts, can't rescue the surviving Tops. Although the string-driven arrangement of "Silent Night" proves engaging and things do pick up a bit half way through, most folks will wonder what happened to the Motown magic that gave us all those good times. --Martin Keller Product description Four Tops ~ Christmas Here With You
