Choke [DVD]

Comedy drama based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk. Sam Rockwell stars as Victor Mancini, a sex-addicted medical school dropout who works as a historical re-enactor at an 18th century theme park. His paltry earnings barely cover the fees of the expensive private medical hospital that cares for his Alzheimer's-afflicted mother, Ida (Anjelica Huston), so he devises an elaborate scam whereby he regularly pretends to choke on food in upmarket restaurants and then accept financial help from the wealthy clients who 'save' him. Meanwhile, he continues to attend his 12-step sex addiction programme along with his best friend Denny (Brad William Henke), and struggles to uncover the elusive identity of his long-lost father.
