The disinfecting effect of the chlorine products in the water is based on the free subchlorinated acid HCIO, which splits into hypochlorite (CIO') and hydrogen (H+)-ions. The redox voltage Redox tension is a measure of the germicidal and oxidative effect of disinfectants in bath water. Redox voltages are dependent on the pH value and therefore must always be documented with the pH value. The redox voltage is therefore an exact measure for the oxidising or disinfecting effect of the existing disinfectant (chlorine), taking into account the impurities present at the moment. A value of 700 - 750 mV is generally considered ideal.
