- CHINESE LANTERNS PHYSALIS ALKEKENGI SEEDS: Attractive and interesting, this plant is grown mainly for the charming red 'lanterns' that form after flowering. May be cut for dried flower displays in late summer.
- SOW: February to July, FLOWERS: July to October, the following year. HEIGHT: 60cm, PREFERS: Full Sun, SEEDS: 150 Approx.
- FOR INDOOR SOWING: WHEN - February to April. WHERE - In trays of moist compost. HOW - Sow thinly, cover with a fine layer of compost. Cover with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at approx. 18-21℃. Seedlings appear 21-30 days. CARE - Remove cover when seedlings appear. When large enough transplant 45cm apart to further trays or pots of compost. Gradually acclimatise to outside conditions (avoid frosts). Transplant 45cm apart in flowering position from summer onwards. FLOWERS - July to October, the following year.
- FOR OUTDOOR SOWING: WHEN - May to July. WHERE – In a prepared seed bed. HOW - Sow thinly in rows 20cm apart. Cover lightly with fine soil. Firm gently, keep moist and weed free. CARE - When large enough thin to 10cm apart. Transplant 45cm apart in flowering position from September to October. FLOWERS - July to October, the following year. CAUTION - Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten, except ripe fruit.
