Solid Brass Butterfly Door Knocker This beautiful door knocker in the shape of a butterfly is a very special piece of hardware. As though it has just landed on the door, the butterfly is sunning itself with its wings spread. A high quality casting from solid brass, the butterfly weighs 0.4kg approx. Hand polished with an unlacquered finish. The butterfly's body strikes down on the attached backplate. This knocker is easy to attach to your door with the two supplied screws. Dimensions: Overall size is 105mm (4¼") wide by 105mm (4¼") high. The butterfly is 105mm (4¼") wide by 85mm (3⅓") high and stands out 40mm (1½") from the door. The backplate measures 75mm (3") wide by 100mm (4") high. Screw holes are 32mm (1¼") apart (centre to centre). How they are made Sand casting is a traditional foundry skill. Molten brass is poured into sand moulds formed from an antique pattern. When the brass is cool, the casts are hand-finished and polished. This makes an authentic antique style and because they are not machine-finished, each one is unique.
