Developed by South Carolina breeder Ed Currie, the pepper is red and gnarled, with a bumpy texture and small pointed tail. In 2013, Guinness World Records declared it the hottest chili pepper in the world, surpassing the previous record holder, the Trinidad Scorpion "Butch T". Other varieties may be spicier, but are not officially confirmed with a Scoville scale higher than the Carolina Reaper. The crossbreed is between a La Soufriere pepper from the Caribbean island of St. Vincent and a Naga Viper pepper from Pakistan and is named 'Reaper' due to the shape of its tail. It has been described as having a fruity taste, with the initial bite being sweet and then immediately turning to "molten lava". How best to use Carolina Reaper Chillies? Only for the brave. In a chilli eating competition of course. Why Choose So Sow Garden Grow Kits? Here at SoSowGarden I grow and source the best quality seeds. I only harvest the fruits when they are at their most ripe, this ensures the seeds you'll have will be at their strongest. For the quickest germination results, sow seeds within the first year of purchase. There are hundreds of quick germination techniques out there, and a successful common rule for seeds with a hard husk is to soak them for 6-12 hours before planting. Chilli, Pumpkin, Jeera & Sesame are examples of these kind of seeds that need that little soak! I'm always here to help you along the way, so do drop me a message and I'll give advice where possible. All paper used is FSC sourced and all cardboard is from recycled sources. The only plastic used is the bags for the soil mix and the seeds. There are plenty of uses for these bags when using your grow kit. Use them as extra pots, as a mini greenhouse, to isolate cross pollinated flowers and of course to keep the seeds from your next harvest! All grow kits are designed and handmade in the UK by me.
