Carnivorous Plant Pinguicula Weser These plants are growing in 9cm wide pots. They are healthy well grown plants. Flower bud just starting to appear on some. Will be sent in pot with soil, packed very well to protect them. The picture is an illustration of the plant/plants you will receive & will be very similar in size. Butterworts are delicate looking plants that produce beautiful floweres. They are classified as carnivorous their scientific name is Pinguicula. Both names are derived from the greasy substance that covers the leaves; this substance (known as mucus) traps small flies and ground-dwelling insects thus causing them to die, the plant then absorbs the nutrients held within the insects so providing it with a boost. These can be used as a natural way of controlling scarid fly (fungus fly), fruit fly & white fly infestations (very useful for those who keep reptiles or other animals whose diets consist of fresh fruit and watery vegetables). Caring for your Butterwort:- Need very bright light, but not direct hot sun. A warm, environment, Temperatures should be kept between 65° - 85°F (18° - 29°C). The soil should always be kept moist. They are sensitive to chemicals, so only use distilled water or rain water. Do not need fertiliser, the insects provide them with all the nutrients they need. Soil Mix : A good recipe is 1 part peat moss, 3 parts perlite and 1 part vermiculite. But if you can't get that you could try the more easier verison 1 part peat moss, and 2 part perlite works fine.
