About this item
  • WHITE FRITILLARIA BULBS Fritillaria meleagris ‘Alba’, also known as White Snake’s Head Fritillary, is a graceful Springflowering bulb that produces nodding, bellshaped white flowers with delicately veined petals. Blooming from April to May, these unique and charming flowers rise above slender green stems and grasslike foliage.
  • HOW TO PLANT FRITILLARIA Plant these fritillaria bulbs in Autumn in moistureretentive, welldrained soil. Choose a partially shaded position or dappled sun, spacing bulbs approximately 810 cm apart and at a depth of 810 cm. Keep soil moist during the growing season and allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering for best results in the following year.
  • PLANTING POSITION Ideal for naturalising in lawns, shady garden beds, or at the base of deciduous trees and shrubs. Also suitable for containers or pots in cool areas. Their elegant white blooms provide contrast against more colourful Spring flowers and blend well with soft planting schemes. Fritillaria meleagris ‘Alba’ also works beautifully as a cut flower.
  • EASY TO STORE If you are not ready to plant the bulbs now, then store them in a cool, dry, frost free, well ventilated location. A garage, shed, loft or cupboard are ideal. Open the paper bag to allow air to circulate round but leave the bulbs in their bags until ready to plant.
Product description

Fritillaria meleagris ‘Alba’, commonly known as White Snake’s Head Fritillary, is a delicate and elegant Spring-flowering bulb producing graceful, nodding white bell-shaped flowers with finely veined petals. Blooming in April and May, these blooms are ideal for naturalising in lawns, borders, meadows, or shaded woodland areas. Their grass-like foliage and understated charm make them a favourite in wildflower-style plantings. These hardy perennial bulbs thrive in moist, well-drained soil and partial shade. Plant in Autumn at a depth of 8-10 cm and space them similarly apart. Once established, they require very little maintenance and will reliably return year after year. Suitable for planting in informal drifts or combining with other early Spring bulbs like bluebells or anemones. Fritillaria ‘Alba’ also makes a lovely cut flower, bringing a touch of wild elegance indoors. Perfect for adding soft Spring interest and supporting pollinators in your garden.
