From July 2011 contour marking is compulsory for new types/models of trucks (for which the manufacturer requests approval) with a maximum tonnage over 7.5 tons and for trailers with a tonnage of more than 3.5 tons. The full rear contour must be marked if the vehicle is broader than 2.1 m. Marking is possible in the colours red and yellow. At least one line covering 80% of the total length must be applied to the lower side of the vehicle. If the vehicle is longer than 6 m, the top corners must also be marked. Permitted colours for side markings are white and yellow. It is also permitted to mark the full contour of the side. If the side of the vehicle has a reflective graphic, full contour marking is compulsory. Line marking is permitted if the structure of the vehicle makes it impossible to apply full or partial contour marking according to the relevant requirements. Red or yellow are permitted as colours for the line marking at the rear. White or yellow may be used for the sides. The new legislation applies from July 10, 2011 for all new registrations of the aforementioned vehicle category.
