The cabbage Savoy Continuity Collection offers the keen cabbage grower a succession of delicious Savoy varieties with dark green attractive heads. They are compact and round and can be harvested from September through to the end of December. Savoy cabbage has the same shape as green and red cabbage, but has the most striking deep-green, crinkly leaves. The flavour is also quite mild, but earthy too. The leaves don't have that same crispness as other cabbages when raw, so we prefer them best when cooked. Popular with chefs as a staple in the kitchen, this is a versatile cabbage collection which can be steamed, fried, roasted, boiled, stuffed or added to a stew or soup. The sky is the limit! Remove the plants from packaging immediately in receipt. Water if the compost is dry. Once planted water well to help settle the soil. Plant in a well-drained soil in a position where it can get plenty of sun. Water cabbages regularly particularly during dry periods. Feed throughout the growing season with a high nitrogen feed. Hoe between plants regularly to prevent weeds from establishing and bring insect larvae to the surface. Draw earth up around the base of each stem to prevent wind rock and improve the plants stability. Harvest Cabbage in late autumn and winter once the heads have matured. Culinary note: Vitamin rich cabbages are particularly high in iron and potassium, but also low in calories.
