Whilst Japanese saws for woodworking have been used within their native Japan for centuries, they are a relatively new type of handsaw to the western world. Unlike western saws which cut on the push stroke, the teeth on these types of saws are angled towards the handle and hence cut on the pull stroke. The immense benefit of this is that blades are much thinner than push-stroke saws as there is no need to compensate for the risk of the blade buckling. Thinner blades mean cutting through less material, and hence more efficient and precise cuts. The Byakko saw is a mere 0.6mm thick which is optimal in ensuring long term strength and wear, whilst being effective in easily cutting through a range of materials. The handle is composed of a solid centre core and is lined with a Thermoplastic Rubber layer that provides a satisfying grip to get all your jobs completed!
