- Elephant garlic (Allium ampeloprasum) It is a hardy bulb with large blue-green leaves. This perennial herb boasts an outsized pink or purple flower stalk that appears in the spring or summer. Under the ground, a large bulb consisting of five to six large cloves surrounded by smaller bulblets grows. This alliums plant attains a height of about 3 feet from bulb.
- Corms take 2 steps to make a full bulb, the first they make a round which is like a small onion . This round Bulbs can be replanted and you get a full bulb with individual cloves and new corms attached to the outside. To plant the corms it is best to nip the top off the outside shell and soak in water for 24hrs before planting.
- Perfect for Garding
- For best results plant in good draining, loose and fertile soil in an open position that gets lots of sun Keep soil moist whilst growing. Harvest the bulbs between May and July when approx. half the leaves have turned brown. Ensure that the soil has good drainage.
- Snip the pointed tip off the outer casing with scissors/nail clippers so that you can see the nut type seed inside, then soak for 24 to 48 hours in water before planting. Plant corms so that the pointed end is facing upward and is buried 2 to 4 cm below the surface.
