Mala is the name for a prayer necklace, comparable to the rosary. Mala can have different sizes and lengths and usually consists of 108 individual beads, it is usually made from natural products, Buddhism likes to take bodhi wood beads as Buddha Shakyamui gained enlightenment under a Bodhi tree. Bones or horn beads are also used to remind the practitioner of the transience of all beings. The mala is worn around the neck or around the wrist.
