The most beautiful sound is generated by gently striking, which is best with a soft, fabric tape glued, rubbing rod, a felt beater or a felt bobbin can also be used. Originally, the Himalayan singing bowls were used as everyday utensils. In the past, shamans blacksmiths were travelling in the Himalayas, forging for local people the harnesses they needed (singing bowls). The beautiful sound may come from the knowledge of the harmonisation of the individual metals (which, as in alchemy, represents different aspects and elements). A harmony of the different elements was achieved when the alloy produced a nice sound when hit. This corresponds to the ideal image of the Buddhist doctrine of balance and harmony.
