Product description
Brikseal is a self-adhesive seal for the temporary waterproofing of air bricks against floods and is made from a foil membrane with a heavy duty adhesive backing. Brikseal can be applied to a rain-wetted (but not flooded) air brick. If properly installed, it will fully waterproof the air brick. Installation is quick and simple. Clean the surface of the air brick with a stiff brush to remove loose debris and surface dirt, unpeel the protective backing, cover the air brick with the Brikseal and press it firmly to ensure a good seal. Once the floodwaters have subsided, Brikseal must be removed to keep the building and underfloor spaces ventilated. One Brikseal will cover a standard air brick measuring 255mm x 115mm. Larger air bricks can be waterproofed by using two or more overlaid Brikseals. Flooding is the greatest threat to the UK posed by climate change, with 5.8 million properties across the UK at risk of flooding from surface, groundwater, river, or coastal flooding. An unprotected air brick can let in 5,000 litres of floodwater in just one hour. The risk of all types of flooding is rising every year and reports of flooding are now on average twice as frequent as they were a hundred years ago in the UK. Climate change and increasing urbanisation, building on floodplains and paving over gardens in towns for parking spaces, are all factors that increase the occurrence of flash flooding. Flooding can happen anywhere and at any time even if you don't live near a river, the sea or a waterway. During extended periods of heavy rain, drains become overwhelmed by the sheer volume of water falling into them. If the ground is already waterlogged, even small amounts of rainfall will have difficulty in soaking away, causing run-off and flash flooding. Flooding can devastate lives and cause serious damage to your property. It is essential to be prepared in advance in case flooding occurs.
