BMC Dual Grit Sharpening Whetstone
About this item
- QUALITY: Generously sized whetstone, suitable for small and larger blades.
- EFFECTIVE: You may see 400 grit but this is too coarse... it will remove an excessive amount of steel from an average kitchen knifes cutting edge. This is bad as it means the primary grind will be reduced, thereby thickening the BTE thickness and making a once "slicey" knife, much less "slicey". Equally, whilst sharpening can be therapeutic, no one wants to be bent over a stone for 3 hours, which you may find yourself doing on an 8000 grit or higher stone. These are just too fine and a waste of time on 99% of sharpening tasks. That is why we have chosen the 1000 and 4000 grits - they are simply the most useable grits!
- VERSATILE: Can be used to sharpen kitchen knives, scissors, gardening shears and machetes.
- SIMPLE: Colour differentiated grits make sharpening and honing easy. Even on our own British made machetes.
- SAFE: Included rubber base has been designed to keep the stone in place during sharpening.
- ECO-FRIENDLY: Packed in a reuseable cardboard box.

Product description
The BMC Dual Grit 1000 & 4000 Sharpening Whetstone is the perfect all-rounder stone. It has a fairly rare, but most useful combination of a fine 4000 (white) and coarse 1000 (green) aluminum oxide abrasive and comes with a secure rubber base. The more commonly used green 1000 grit side is thicker (16mm), extending the stones service life further. Before use, we recommend soaking your stone in cold water for 5 minutes. The stone will absorb water and help provide sufficient lubrication for the sharpening session. If it does start to feel dry/gritty, then sprinkle on a few drops of water throughout sharpening. During use, you may benefit from dipping the stone back into water or running under the tap for a second to remove the build up of residue and steel particles. If after extended and multiple sharpenings, you find the stone is no longer flat, do not worry - this is completely normal and is caused by uneven wear on the stone. Rather than attempting to avoid, simply regrind each surface by turning the stone upside down and rubbing the surface in circles on large grit sandpaper, or similar rough, flat surface (large flat paving slabs work great) until the stones surface is flat once more. Gently wash with warm running water after use. Comes packaged in a cardboard inner box.
