Arterial blood pressure changes constantly over the course of a cardiac cycle. The blood pressure is always given in the form of two values: The highest pressure in the cycle is called systolic blood pressure. It is formed when the heart muscle contracts and the blood is pushed into the vessels. The lowest is diastolic blood pressure, which occurs when the heart muscle has fully expanded and the heart is filled with blood. Blood pressure fluctuations are normal. Even with a repeat measurement, considerable differences can occur between the measured values. One-off or irregular measurements therefore do not provide any reliable information about the actual blood pressure. A reliable assessment is only possible if you regularly measure under comparable conditions. Note To ensure that the values can be compared, always measure your blood pressure at the same time of day rest about 5 minutes before each measurement! If you want to take multiple measurements on one person, wait 5 minutes between each measurement.
