Beyblade is a brand name for a line of spinning toys originally developed and manufactured by Takara Tomy, whose first edition dates back to 2000. They include a throwing device with a rope to help the top reach maximum speed. Players eject their peaks into a plastic arena where they hit. The last one on the top left is the winner. The main premise of the Beyblade series is customisable, with interchangeable parts. Both toys and their name were inspired by "Beigoma", a traditional spinning top. The introduction of the toy was the broadcast of the animated TV series Beyblade with the same name. In 2001, the series was authorised by the Korean toy manufacturer Sonokong. In 2002, Hasbro started selling Beyblade toys internationally (licensed and produced by Takara) with a coordinated country by country version of the localised versions of the TV series. In August 2008, Takara Tomy released Beyblade: Metal Fusion; the first epitome of the toy in three and a half years. The series was followed in 2015 by Beyblade: Burst.
