Short coats need a different brush, not a smaller one. Long pins on a Labrador reach past the coat and do nothing but scratch skin. A short double coat - Labrador, Staffie, Beagle, Pug, a shedding Lab in June - is packed tight, and the dead hair in it has nowhere to go. It comes out on the furniture instead.
