Amelanchier trees are large trees, with an attractive open habit. They are deciduous trees; with lots of colours of leaves that first open bronze, changing to orange and red tones by autumn. Amelanchier are known for their amazing autumn colour, which is even more enhanced in a bright sun border. Amelanchier, also known as Snowy Mespilus, is a tree grown for its glorious spring blossom, which is pure white, but almost appears pink alongside the bronze coloured, young foliage. Plants will perform best on a slightly acid soil. The autumn foliage colours of Amelanchier will be at their peak when grown in full sun. Plant into a wet, but well-drained soil, which can be neutral to acidic. Can be grown as a free-standing specimen tree or trained as a hedge. Amelanchier are maintenance-free, and will only need pruning to keep them in good shape, or to remove any dead, diseased or dying growth.
