- SLOW RELEASE NITROGEN FEED: Alfalfa meal fertiliser at 2.5-0.3-2 NPK releases as soil microbes break the protein down, so it feeds steadily over 4 to 8 weeks and will not scorch roots or seedlings.
- CONTAINS NATURAL TRIACONTANOL: Alfalfa carries triacontanol, a growth compound active at trace levels, alongside 20 or more amino acids and saponins that support soil biology and earthworm activity.
- WELL LOVED BY ROSE GROWERS: Alfalfa meal for roses has been a grower's staple for decades. Apply 100 to 150 g per bush in early spring once soil is above 10C, and again after the first flush.
- PLANT-BASED AND VEGAN FRIENDLY: A 100 percent plant-derived feed made from pure alfalfa, suitable for vegan gardeners and gentle enough to use around seedlings, edibles, roses and lawns.
- COVERS 27 TO 40 SQUARE METRES: At 100 to 150 g per square metre this 4 kg sack feeds 27 to 40 square metres of bed, or 27 to 40 rose bushes. Pellets stay where you put them.
Product description
Product description Dr Forest Alfalfa Meal Pellets are a slow-release organic nitrogen feed with an NPK of 2.5-0.3-2. The nitrogen is not free nitrate; it is locked into plant proteins and released only as soil microbes break it down, so it feeds steadily in warm, moist soil and cannot scorch roots or seedlings. That gentle release is what makes alfalfa safe at transplanting. The reason growers prize alfalfa goes deeper than NPK. It naturally contains triacontanol, a fatty alcohol active at very small concentrations that is linked in published trials to higher photosynthetic rate, more chlorophyll, stronger root growth and greater vigour across more than forty crops (Khan et al. 2016; Naeem et al. 2020). Alfalfa also supplies more than twenty amino acids, a suite of trace minerals and saponins that support soil biology. It is 100% plant-based, with no blood, bone, hoof, horn or feather meal, which makes it the organic feed of choice for vegan gardeners. Organically grown in Eastern Europe and milled into pellets. HOW FAR IT GOES: at the standard bed rate of 100 to 150 g per square metre, this 4kg sack covers roughly 27 to 40 square metres of vegetable bed, or feeds 27 to 40 rose bushes at 100 to 150 g each. That is about GBP 6.25 per kilo. HOW TO USE: work the pellets lightly into the top 5 to 10 cm of soil or compost and water in. For vegetable beds, use 100 to 150 g per square metre, pre-plant or as a side dressing every 4 to 6 weeks. For tomatoes and cucumbers, 50 to 100 g per plant at planting and again at first flower. For roses and shrubs, 100 to 150 g per bush in early spring once soil is above 10C, repeated after the first bloom. For pots, 5 to 10 g per litre of compost. For lawns, 50 to 75 g per square metre. For a faster feed, steep 100 g of pellets in 10 litres of water for three to five days, strain and apply to the root zone. Pair with a potassium-rich feed such as Dr Forest Polyhalite or Sulphate of Potash through flowering and fruiting. Ingredients Plant-based fertiliser ingredients.
