An attractive variety that provides year round interest with changing colour leaves. In the spring you will see lime green and cram foliage emerge before this turns to pink in the summer months. The leaves will then change back to lime green in the autumn. A compact variety, this is perfect for planting in large patio pots that can be placed anywhere in the garden. Pot up acer plants and grow them on in cool conditions until large enough to plant outside in their final positions. Grow Acer palmatum trees in any moist, fertile, well-drained soil in sun or dappled shade. It is quite important to give plants shelter from strong winds which can scorch the leaves. Alternatively grow the Japanese Maple in large containers, using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Water regularly throughout the growing season until acer trees are well established. Protect plants from strong winds. Acers require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems if necessary from late autumn to midwinter.
