Product description
Acer palmatum 'Beni-Maiko' is a beautiful and compact Japanese Maple offering exceptional colour interest throughout the seasons. Its name, which translates as "Red-Haired Dancing Girl," is a fitting tribute to the fiery pink-red foliage that graces the plant in early spring. As the season progresses, the vivid leaves transition through rich red to greenish-red in summer, before erupting into blazing crimson and orange tones in autumn. Perfectly suited to smaller gardens, containers, or sheltered borders, this slow-growing shrub reaches a height of around 91–100cm, making it ideal for patios or Japanese-themed planting schemes. Its graceful shape and finely divided foliage offer year-round structural interest. ‘Beni-Maiko’ performs best in moist, well-drained soil in a sheltered, partially shaded location. It appreciates dappled light but should be protected from harsh afternoon sun and drying winds. While hardy, a mulch around the base in winter helps protect roots and conserve soil moisture. Water regularly, especially during prolonged dry periods, and provide additional care during establishment. Minimal pruning is needed—simply remove any dead or damaged branches in late summer to maintain a healthy framework. This elegant maple is a long-lived feature plant that brings a striking, ever-changing palette of colour to the garden and is a favourite among collectors and designers alike. Image may be included for illustration of supply but can vary due to seasonality changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months). Decorative pots are not supplied.
