The long, heady years of jazz clubs, fast cars and even faster living, have finally run their course as the stock market crashes and ruthless mobsters turn many cities into virtual no-go zones. One such city is Chicago, Illinois, where rival gangs vie for control of the lucrative trade in illicit black-market liquor. An uneasy truce between Al Capone’s Southside Crew and Molly Mollone’s Northside Mob looks set to fail, as a spate of tit-for-tat reprisals means danger now lurks behind every door for those caught up in this crazy world of crime. However, despite the rising toll from such attacks, even hardened mobsters are stunned to learn of the sudden death of the Northside Mob’s deputy leader, Benjamin ‘Bugsy’ Mollone - Molly’s only son. Not only did the murder involve the underhand use of acute cyanide poisoning but it also took place at the Copacabana Club, a supposedly ‘safe-zone’ bar, free to be used by all gang members. Public interest is raised even further when private investigator Sam Spade calls an open meeting and offers a huge, multi-million dollar reward for any information leading to the arrest of Bugsy’s killer.
