Tillandsia ionantha is a small plant, growing up to 3 inches in height, with thin and flexible leaves that are typically bright green or red. It produces small, bright purple or blue flowers that bloom in clusters. Like all air plants, Tillandsia ionantha does not require soil to grow, but instead absorbs water and nutrients through its leaves. It prefers bright, indirect light and should be watered by misting or soaking it in water for a few hours once every week or two, depending on the humidity and temperature of its environment. It should also be fertilized regularly with a specialized air plant fertilizer. With proper care, Tillandsia ionantha can live for several years.
