What to expect Botanical or species tulips are generally smaller and more natural-looking than traditional tall garden tulips. This mix typically grows around 15–30 cm tall and flowers from March to April, depending on the varieties included, local weather and growing conditions. How to plant Plant in autumn, ideally from September to December, around 10 cm deep and 5–10 cm apart, with the pointed end facing upwards. Choose a sunny, sheltered position with well-drained soil. Light partial shade can also be suitable. Avoid areas where the soil remains waterlogged during winter. Water after planting if the soil is dry, then allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the bulbs can replenish their energy. In suitable conditions, some varieties may return and gradually multiply over time, creating larger groups in future springs.
