Product description
This presentation pack was issued by the Royal Mail on 18th July 2006 and contains a set of 10 mint stamps, which were produced to celebrate 150 years since the founding of the Gallery. The ten images for this issue were sourced from among 9,000 portraits in the National Portrait Gallery. They show a variety of media which is exhibited in the Gallery including sculpture, watercolour, oil painting and photography. The most famous Portrait used is of William Shakespeare, it is thought to be the only one painted of him and was the first painting acquired by the gallery. The stamps were designed by Peter Willberg. Inside the pack contains information on the principles and policies that determine its collection. There are also photographs of some of the portraits. Ideal as a gift or keepsake, making a wonderful addition to any collection.
