• DIRECTIONS Turn the smudge to around 45 degrees, light the end, allow it to flame for about 30 seconds and then blow out. Smoke should be rising freely. If it is difficult to light the smudge it is probably because it is packed very tightly, simply tease the end apart to let air flow freely through the dried leaves. Use a suitable container such as a shell or cauldron to rest the smoking smudge in. Alternatively you can break the smudge apart and burn the leaves and stems separately.
