Product description
Few colours stand out in an early spring garden quite like the clear blue of Scilla siberica. While borders are still looking bare, its small, gently nodding flowers appear above fresh green leaves, bringing an immediate lift to pots, path edges, rockeries and the ground beneath deciduous shrubs and trees. This pack contains 10 large size 8/9cm dormant bulbs, ready for autumn planting. Plant all ten together for a concentrated patch of blue, or use several small groups to repeat the colour through a border. The bulbs arrive dormant rather than in flower; natural differences in shape, size and outer skin are normal, and the listing images show the mature spring display. Also known as Siberian Squill, Scilla siberica is compact but easy to notice when it blooms. It typically reaches up to 20cm and flowers in early spring, often from March to April depending on local weather. The rich blue blooms look particularly attractive beside white snowdrops, yellow crocus, miniature daffodils and other low-growing spring bulbs. Use them at the front of beds, beside paths, in patio containers or beneath deciduous trees and shrubs. Their compact height makes them easy to fit into smaller gardens, while their vivid colour still creates a noticeable effect. How to plant: Plant in autumn, around 8โ10cm deep with the pointed end facing upwards, in full sun or partial shade. Choose well-drained soil and avoid areas that remain waterlogged during winter. Water after planting if the soil is dry, then allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering. What to expect: In suitable conditions, Scilla siberica is ideal for naturalising and may gradually create a larger display over future springs. It is a lovely choice for gardeners who want a clear burst of blue before the rest of the garden is in full growth.
